Wildcard is a character from the videogame ModNation Racers. One of the Elite Racers, Wildcard is the third Elite in the game, representative and champion of the Dash Island course in the second championship.

A Mod with vampire-like traits, Wildcard was born in Dash Island and started racing at a very precocious age. In spite of this, his skills were near-unmatched, rightfully earning his spot amongst the ModNation Racing Championship Elites, as well as being the third most popular racer in the MRC.

In fiction wrestling, Wildcard got his start in Full Throttle Wrestling in 2014, winning their Television Championship and earning the promotion its' first -- and only -- Fiction Wrestling Award for Grappler Of The Year. Going on to win the Intercontinental Championship and feuding with Itachi Uchiha, Wildcard had a very brief parenthesis with Ultimate Championship Wrestling, and then remained with FTW until it shuttered, before being signed to FWE by Gear Valant, immediately winning the thirtieth-annual Showdown at Sundown. He's currentl slated to face James Rolfe in the main event of CrashDay XIV for the FWE Championship.

Personality[]

Wildcard is a colorful character. Originally depicted as bratty and arrogant, he has matured over the years and become a gentle soul, in spite of retaining his now signature cockyness. At first incapable of allowing anything to get him to stand down if he believed he could handle it, as well as behaving recklessly with nonchalance if it meant impressing people or obtaining something that he needed or wanted, Wildcard has long learned to know to behave better.

Very excitable at first, due to his young age, over the span of a couple of years Wildcard was repeatedly crestbeaten due to his lack of satisfaction and bad trajectory that his career had taken, even starting to allow spite and jealousy to come through. However, after regret settled in and he got a second chance, Wildcard swore to himself to never allow said emotions to control him again. He has held his head low until a more recent return to form and his adventures with Clowmon and the Hearts' Network, where he finally regained his confidence and energy.

Currently, Wildcard can be compared to a very young adult; disillusioned and having gone through rather tough moments, his strong belief in himself and the right friendships have allowed him to back his words with actions, knowing how ugly life can be but refusing that side and doing his utmost to keep himself and others away from him. Very playful and happy-go-lucky, he prefers to be laid back and enjoy things, get a laugh out of them, and even lazying off if possible, only becoming serious if he perceives the utmost need to.

That said, his confidence is rather frail, as he will begin hesitating and doubting himself when taken out of his zone of comfort or his zone of knowledge for the first time. These feelings can be played for drama, causing him to freeze up or refuse a call to action, as they can be played for laugh, such as underplaying his achievements unlike his usual self and trying to worm his way out of doing something. These moments are excidingly rare, but by no means impossible.

As a gambler, he has a particular enjoyment of games, even though he tends to be a playful sore loser at times. With time and personal growth, he's gotten considerably smarter as well, preferring to keep a low profile if the situation calls it and only boasting and showing off once the odds are in his absolute favour and he's on top of the situation. He also learned to keep his emotions more in check; although still rather expressive, he tends to let the full extent of his true feelings out only to people he has great trust in, which ties to another key trait of his, loyalty. Wildcard refuses to merely use people to gain advantages, which is also how he behaves with his hands in card games, sticking with them regardless of the consequences and only changing idea if by their own request or if there is no alternative.

Relationships[]

Allies[]

Skidplate[]

Wildcard and Skidplate have known each other since they were younger, with Wildcard barely a teenager and Skidplate a few years older than him. Despite both being on the lower end of the Elites' totem pole for a period -- or rather because of it, the two ended up bounding, and relied on the other as they got used to things outside of ModNation.

Despite the two taking separate roads, with Wildcard becoming a JLA-registered hero whilst Skidplate prefers to keep a low profile and train, their bond is still strong enough that Wildcard felt the urge to introduce Skidplate to Clowmon before heading into what he believed to be the final battle with Arkadimon. As such, their bond is comparable to one between brothers.

Slick[]

Whilst Wildcard has known Slick since he was a kid, Slick only got to know Wildcard when the latter finally became an Elite, and his brash, cocky style, as well as his love for gambling, saw the older Mod take an immediate liking to him. Despite the generational gap, the two get along swimmingly, with Slick usually giving Wildcard life advice coming from experience, although rarely compatible with the situation at hand, whilst Wildcard humours Slick and usually thinks on his behalf when he's particularly worked up or out of his depth.

Diablo[]

Wildcard and Diablo originally had an uneasy relationship, both being Elites but Diablo being higher on the metaphorical totem pole than Wildcard as well as making him feel uneasy. It was only after both left the MRC full time that Wildcard got to know him and appreciate him better. Despite not approving of his methods, his constant adrenaline-seeking stunts, or some of his actions, Wildcard clearly believes Diablo to be a friend, and the feeling is reciprocated as Diablo did not want to harm or even face Wildcard, being forced to do so by Edward Caoideach and taking any chance of tagging out nonetheless until his team was at a serious risk of losing.

Gear Valant[]

Clowmon[]

Wildcard first met Clowmon during the events of Hearts' Network, Wildcard becoming Clowmon's Tamer by pure luck. In spite of this and his own lack of confidence, Clowmon's raw happiness and chid-like energy were enough to get Wildcard moving, and through-out the series, the two deepened their bond until they became capable of Biomerging to unlock Clowmon's Ultimate form, Diamon.

The relationship between the two is very unlike the one of a typical Digimon and his Tamer, and Wildcard and Clowmon treat each other as equals. Wildcard tends to be the straight-thinking part of the duo, planning on the spot and keeping his train of thought grounded, whilst Clowmon is the more funny, chaotic part, often cracking jokes and overstepping his boundaries by speaking up when Wildcard is at a loss of words or believes he shouldn't. Wildcard feels no issue in going around with Clowmon in tow after the events of Hearts' Network, until most other members of the dissolved team, bar when wrestling, both to keep two parts of his life well separated as well as keep him out of possible danger.

The two seem to be incapable to be angry at the other, but will rush to the other's side at a moment's notice.

Debut (2014)[]

Wildcard officially made his debut within the company on Week 3, when he cut a promo related to the Genesis Rumble, explaining that luck plays a major rule in the Rumble and how luck is his strong suit, before beating Byron Masters. Wildcard would participate in the Genesis Rumble, throwing out Black*Star via Superkick amongst others, but was unsuccesful in winning the match.

On FTW Week 8, Wildcard squared off against FTW Intercontinental Champion Brian Van Vorst, but their match ended up in a No Contest, when the lights went out, and as soon as they came back, both Wildcard and Brian were laid out, with the latter bloodied, and a Jack of Clubs laying by them.

The week after, Wildcard won a hard fought 6-Men Gauntlet to enter a Triple Threath Match for the Intercontinental Championship at Glory Road. But Wildcard, despite putting on a match of the night candidate and almost pinning Jesse Alvarez ultimately got pinned by the champ himself, Brian Van Vorst.

Television Championship, Feud with the Royal Court, and Other Feuds (2015 - 2017)[]

At the FTW show the day after Glory Road, Wildcard would begin to bounce back, defeating Whirlwind. A month later, the two would square off again, this time with Whirlwind's title on the line, and Wildcard finally managed to win his first belt by pinning Whirlwind after an Ace of Spades. The week after, Whirlwind would try to get the belt back, but Wildcard would pin him once again, sending him back to the bottom of the contenders' list.

At the Week 16 FTW show, Wildcard would face Barret Wallace, ultimately making him tap to the Joker Lock to retain his belt. At the first-ever FTW Alchemy, Wildcard would hold an open challenge, which Arlon Benjamin answered; Wildcard ended up losing, but by DQ when Darrel Hodder attacked Arlon from behind, keeping the belt on Wildcard.

The week after, Wildcard would face off against Samuel Mason, losing after Mason hit the Free Mason Bomb. On FTW Alchemy, Episode 9, Wildcard would lose against Chris Reynolds, and in the same week, he would lose the TV Championship to Ace Wilder. Wildcard failed to win the belt back from Wilder in their rematch. Wildcard's appearances in FTW shows dwindled from that point onwards, but the Elite decided to stick to the company to the end, until the day it folded. As a reward for his loyalty, Wildcard was not hindered by a no-compete clause.

FWE[]

Debut, Winner of the Showdown at Sundown (2017)[]

In April 2017, Wildcard surprised numerous fans when he off-handedly revealed in an interview that he had signed a contract with FWE, under request of Gear Valant and reccomandation of fellow Elite Diablo. Wildcard officially made his debut in an unscheduled match at Springtime for Italy 2017 (thus joining the Blitzkrieg roster), beating Pierce Washington in less than three minutes via pin after hitting him with an Ace of Spades.

On the May 13th edition of Wednesday Night Blitzkrieg, Wildcard got into a confrontation with El Presidente over who should challenge Applejack for the Television Championship match at High Noon 2015. Gear Valant scheduled a singles match between the two, that El Presidente won after reversing Wildcard's Ace of Spades into a Tropico Slam. Wildcard was featured in an interview segment on the May 27th, 2015 edition of Wednesday Night Blitzkrieg, where he announced he was participating in the High Noon Rumble.

At High Noon XXX, WIldcard entered the Showdown at Sundown with number seven and won the match, eliminating Emao III, Vlad, Hacker, Mr. Torgue, "Herr" Frederick Von Twirlenkiller and, last, Flash Man in the process, lasting a little over one hour (second longest appearance of the night) and eliminating six people (second highest amount of eliminations).

On the Blitzkrieg following High Noon, FWE Champion James Rolfe called out Wildcard during his promo, which opened the show, daring him to challenge for the FWE Championship at CrashDay XIII. Later, in that same night, Wildcard received some advice from FWE legend John Tanner and defeated Marcello Ricci in dominant fashion. On the June 7th edition of Blitzkrieg, Wildcard faced El Presidente once again, but their match ended up in a No Contest when, in the following order, Aries, Rolfe, Metal Man and EOW: BLADE-7 interfered. General Manager Gear Valant then announced that the night's main event would have been a Six-Men Tag Team match featuring the ones involved in the accident. Wildcard's team, composed of himself, Aries and Metal Man, managed to win the match, defeating the team of El Presidente, BLADE-7 and James Rolfe when Aries pinned the latter.

The June 14th edition of Wednesday Night Blitzkrieg saw Wildcard square off against fellow Elite and friend Slick, a match the former won with a Joker Lock, which he hadn't used to end a match in several months. The two, as good friends, shook hands and hugged in the middle of the ring after the match. The Nerd, in reaction, tweeted his "disgust" at the event. On the following week's Blitzkrieg, Wildcard did not wrestle, apparently being given a week off, but he did appear by announcing his intentions of "letting luck decide" for which championship he would've challenged at CrashDay XIII. A decision he would've announced at No Way Out.
